The Icon Exhibit

St. Jonah Orthodox Church

February 2-4, 2007

Our parish hosted an Icon Exhibit, consisting of more than 60 Russian icons, mostly from the 17th through the 19th Century.

The Choir gave a musical presentation. (From left to right: Fr. John Whiteford; David Stone; Matushka Patricia Whiteford; Elizabeth Whiteford; and Choir Director, Nia Worontsoff.)

Fr. Joseph Huneycutt, author of “One Flew over the Onion Dome”, gave a lecture on Orthodox Evangelism.

We saw a significant increase in attendance. We also introduced a booklet that explained each of the icons, based on a suggestion we received from the previous year.

Fr. Cassian Sibley gave a lecture entitled “The Enculturating Power of Orthodox Christianity: Of Icons, Architecture, and Calendars.”

Fr. John Whiteford gave a lecture on the history of Iconoclasm.
